About the Award

Established in 2016, the Cayden Chang Inspire Award aims to inspire students from the School of Social Sciences (SOSS) at the Singapore Management University to persevere during difficult times and achieve their goals.  It recognises SOSS students who have achieved success in their educational pursuits despite adversities in life.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduates from the School of Social Sciences
  • Faced and overcome adversity in areas relating to family, health, poor academic performance or financial need.
  • With demonstrated evidences of actions taken to overcome the adversities faced
  • Will serve as role models and encouragement to other undergraduates to persevere during difficult times and inspire them to achieve their goals.
  • Attained minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 at the time of application

The award will be given only if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Application

  • Applications will be invited in Term 2 annually.
  • Interested applicants must provide documentary evidence in support of fulfilment of eligibility criteria.

About the Donor

Cayden Chang is the Director and Founder of Mind Kinesis Management lnternational LLP, Mind Kinesis Investments Pte Ltd, Value Investing Academy Pte Ltd.  Mind Kinesis Management lnt'l LLP runs the 1st NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) in Singapore with a specific focus on producing tangible results while the latter two companies focus on running Value Investing Programme, the first and only value investing training that is recommended and endorsed by Mary Buffett, the internationally acclaimed author and speaker of how billionaire Warren Buffett invests.  His company also runs Value Investing Bootcamp and other investment related workshops in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Cayden graduated with 3 degrees; a Bachelor of Science degree (Merit) degree, Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree and a Master of Science degree in E-Business from National University of Singapore.  He has also been trained in value investing by Professor Bruce Greenwald in Columbia University, the institution where Billionaire investor Warren Buffett met Professor Bejamin Graham, as well as by Professor George Athanassakos, the finance professor who holds the Ben Graham Chair in Value Investing at the Richard lvey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.  He has also received the Lifelong Learners Award 2008 from the Minister of Manpower on 18 November 2008, Mr Gan Kim Yong and he was featured in "TODAY" newspaper, "938Live Online News", "938Live Radio Station", "Mediacorp Xin.Sg" and "The Straits Times".  He was subsequently featured in "938Live Breakfast Club" Radio, "Channel News Asia AM Live", "Shareinvestment", "The Edge", and "The Exquisite" Magazine for sharing his secrets of financial success.

In July 2010, he was diagnosed with Renal Cancer.  Despite having this disease, he continued with the launched of his first charity project in August 2010, where he has donated all of the sales proceeds of his book titled 'Do You Have What It Takes to Be BOSS?’, to 'The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund'.  This project was featured on "938Live Radio Station ‘The Living Room’” and "The Straits Times".  His fight with Renal Cancer was subsequently published in "The Straits Times 'Mind Your Body'" and he was also interviewed on "938Live Radio Station ‘A Slice of Life’”.  His life story was also being featured in a full-page article on '"The Sunday Times" on 10 June 2012.  He survived terminal stage Renal Cancer (Stage 4) in September 2014 and he had launched his second book titled "The Book of Hope: One Man's Journey Facing Cancer As A Young Husband, Father And Entrepreneur" to raise funds for cancer research.

His mission in life is to build an endowment fund for cancer research and hospice care.
