About the Financial Award

Established in 2021, the de Suantio Bursary is available to full-time Singaporean undergraduates at the Singapore Management University. It is aimed to assist financially needy undergraduates to achieve academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Full-time first year undergraduates in any degree programme
  • Singapore Citizens 
  • Must be of good character and conduct
  • With demonstrated evidence of financial needs (with gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding the prevailing limit to qualify for government bursaries)

Benefits

  • $10,000 per annum (towards subsidised tuition fee and study-related expenses)
  • Tenable for up to four years of study, subject to the recipient’s continued observance of the eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions of award.
  • May be in concurrent receipt of another bursary for cash allowance, subject to fulfilment of its eligibility criteria.

Application

Shortlisting of candidates for consideration will be from the list of applicants applying for SMU-administered bursaries in the year of award.

About the Donor

Dr Della Suantio Lee is the founder-chairperson of the D.S. Lee Foundation, which she established in 2004 to improve the quality and status of nursing in Singapore through scholarships and related partnerships.  Education is also a strong focus of her philanthropy.  Through her foundation, Dr Della Suantio Lee has championed numerous causes in healthcare, education, art, culture as well as social and community projects.

Dr Della Suantio Lee is the granddaughter of the late Thio Siong Soe, a well-known Indonesian philanthropist and long-time business associate of the late Lee Kong Chian.  She is married to Dr Lee Seng Gee, the eldest son of the late Lee Kong Chian and a key benefactor of SMU through the Lee Foundation.
