About the Award
Established in 2025, the Jimmy and Susy Thomas Resilience Award is to motivate the University’s exceptional students‘ talents at the University’s Yong Pung How School of Law and spur them to greater heights of academic excellence. It will provide appropriate recognition to a second year student in the law school who is keen in this prize to put forth a short (no more than 100 to 200 words) write-up on how they have overcome hardship, adversity and risen to the occasion though hard circumstance in their lives.
The Award will be presented at a University-level ceremony or at such other occasion as determined by YPHSL.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students keen on this prize will be required to put forth a short (no more than 100 to 200 words) write-up on how they have overcome hardship, adversity and risen to the occasion though hard circumstance in their lives.
- Students eligible for this Award will be a second-year full-time undergraduate who is either a Singapore Citizen or a Singapore Permanent Resident, studying at the Yong Pung How School of Law.
- Students should possess good academic achievement and demonstrate strong leadership qualities and active co-curriculum involvement.
- No Award will be given if there is no candidate of sufficient merit to qualify.

About the Donor
Abraham Vergis is a Senior Counsel and the Managing Director of Providence Law Asia, a Singapore law practice focused on the resolution of international disputes across Asia. His wife, Sarah Thomas, is an environmental engineer by training and holds a Masters degree from Imperial College. They are the happy parents of Dylan, Reah and Renee Vergis.
The Jimmy and Susy Thomas Resilience Award is established by Mr and Mrs Vergis to honour the values and resilience demonstrated by Sarah’s parents: Jimmy and Susy Thomas.
