About the Donor

This Award is made possible from the proceeds of a generous endowed contribution by Ngee Ann Kongsi.

Founded in 1845, the Ngee Ann Kongsi is a foundation that is actively involved in educational, cultural and welfare activities in Singapore. The Kongsi's engagement with larger community continues in present day and aligning with their vision to support education, the Kwa Geok Choo Top Law Student Award will recognize the holistic achievements of a Yong Pung How School of Law graduate at SMU. The award is named after the late Madam Kwa Geok Choo, who represents the contemporary Singapore woman, balancing the huge demands of being the wife of our former prime minister and a successful career in the legal sector. Other than this award, the Ngee Ann Kongsi made an endowed gift in 2007 to name the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium and the Ngee Ann Kongsi Annual Lecture Series.
