About the Award

Established in 2013, the Prize aims to motivate Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor students from the Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL) at the Singapore Management University to excel in their studies.  It provides recognition for the top law student in Law of Property.

The Prize will be presented at a University-level event.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Prize will be given annually to the top second year law student in the Law of Property course offered by YPHSL.
  • Factors considered include (but not limited to) the overall course grade and any other factors which demonstrate the student’s all-rounded abilities.

The Prize will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.

Application

The recipient will be determined by YPHSL.

About the donor

The Award has been established in honour of Professor Tan Sook Yee. This Award is supported by the proceeds of an endowed contribution received from SMU faculty who have had the privilege of learning from, and working with her. Professor Tan taught property law at the Faculty of Law of the National University of Singapore from 1964 to 2005 and also served as its Dean between 1980 and 1987. She is currently on the Board of Directors for New Opera Singapore – a platform for young local talents in Western vocal art forms.
