The best experience I have in teaching and collaborating with SMU students is to be able to see how they can evolve intellectually and become independent-minded and creative in coping with real world challenges.
I was very impressed by SMU’s research and teaching support during my interview visit. I had a good feeling that working in such a resourceful, collegial, and collaborative environment would allow me to break new research grounds. I also like the small class size and interactive pedagogy at SMU. I really like that teaching can come alive through engaging discussions and giving students the hands-on opportunity to practice what they have learned.
I’m currently offering Psychology Methods I and the Psychology study Mission/ SMU-XO course. My research seeks to understand how people participate actively in both intra- and inter-cultural contexts, as well as the psychological implications for multicultural competence.
SMU is located in the prime cultural hub of Singapore. We have the National Museum of Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum just a few steps away. The world renowned National Gallery is also only 15-minute walk away. Being a social psychologist, I know very well that humans are social animals. Sometimes, it just feels right to be embedded in an intellectually stimulating and exciting environment where you can encounter and interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Like many SMU students, my favorite stall on campus is Tea Party. It is a refreshing treat to have a cup of coffee and some snacks after 3 hours of teaching.
