If you are given an opportunity to be part of the SMU community, it means that we have carefully reviewed who you are and what you are capable of. Have faith that you can go through the SMU-style learning experience because we accept students who can do it. Trust us because we are in this successful business of fostering future leaders for the past 18 years.

Why did you choose to join SMU?

My favourite animal is the lion. During my campus visit for a job talk, I saw lions everywhere on campus including the logo of SMU (yes, I learned later that other local universities have a lion logo, too….). When I learned that Singapore means the ‘lion city’, I felt that it was my destiny to join SMU (and I am not joking!). In addition, everyone at SMU (now my colleagues) were very nice and friendly (and they still are) and committed to deliver the best education available to their students. That’s why I chose to join SMU.

Classes/Modules you currently teach and Research Areas of Interest

I teach undergraduate and graduate health economics courses at SMU. I teach economics aspects of health as valuable human capital in which people continuously invest and use to earn money and be happy. In addition, I really want my students to use what they learn in my class and apply such knowledge to their lives in a practical and meaningful way. Thus, I teach students how to evaluate whether and how healthcare policies work, for example, Medishield Life, Pioneer Generation Package, and so on.

What is your favourite spot on campus?

The SMU concourse area where I always see SMU students doing something fun.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about SMU?

SMU just launched Health Economics and Management as a 2nd Major last year! The healthcare sector is among the largest and fastest-growing industries both in Singapore and worldwide.
