Why did you choose to come to SMU?
After poly I was sure that I wanted to continue to pursue some form of software engineering education in university. Through my experience in poly, I felt that my best learning experiences was when I was doing projects, FYP, Intern and workshops. This then greatly informed my decision while choosing a university.
Of the typical universities to go to for an IT degree, SMU was definitely not most peoples' first choice, nor was it mine initially. However, the software engineering degree in SMU stood out to me as exactly what I was looking for; a programme that understands the value of projects & real word work experience. Coupled with the small classes, more flexible curriculum system, 2nd major offerings and graduate employment statistics, it became a top choice for me.
Please share some key highlights of your student life in SMU
All of my first year mods were really good. Even though there were some mods I had already took when I was in poly, I still found myself learning new things. Overall, the professors I had were all very engaging and the participatory aspect of the classes helped to keep me engaged.
One of my first year mods SE101 (networking & operating systems) is a clear highlight. Although quite dense, it gave me a much better understanding of some of the fundamental concepts of applications, operating systems, networking and how they all tie in together.
