Why did you choose to come to SMU?

When looking at the offers from the local & overseas universities, one thing that SMU stood out was the guaranteed second major and global exchange program. This stood out as it was unique to SMU and it allowed more flexibility in how I wanted to shape my schooling life whilst not being constrained and confined into one route unlike other universities.

SMU also provided me the perfect opportunity to stay in Singapore to be close to my family. After spending 2 years away from my family in the form of NS, the thought of being away for another 3-5 years overseas definitely made me consider the local universities heavily, and SMU’s overall strengths and advantages made it clear for me that this was the school for me.

Why did you choose your field of study / degree programme?

I chose business as I took HL Business Management in IB and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I think that having a business degree, even if it is considered a ‘generalist’ pathway provides ample opportunities to diversify into many specialities and industries. The business program that SMU provides allows for the flexibility to arrange and create your story that you want to build and you are not confined to a single track/pathway.

What advice would you give to prospective students (especially your juniors from high school) who are thinking of applying to SMU?

Reach out to us (your seniors), we are more than happy to share our stories and advice as you guys come into the school. Come into SMU with an open mind and keep in mind that you will meet people from many different educational backgrounds which may be very different to yours.
