Why did you choose to come to SMU?
I chose SMU because it offers a holistic approach to education that goes beyond just chasing grades. While academic excellence is important, SMU recognizes that true learning happens when you’re not only absorbing knowledge but also applying it in real-world situations. That’s what really drew me in—the emphasis on experiential learning and the flexibility to explore beyond the classroom.
One of the standout features of SMU is its flexible structure. With each module requiring only about three hours of weekly commitment, I have the freedom to manage my time effectively. This setup allows me to dive into my studies while also pursuing other interests and activities outside of school. Whether it's taking up internships or learning new skills, SMU’s flexible schedule means I can broaden my horizons and develop a well-rounded skill set.
But what really sets SMU apart from other universities is its strong focus on collaboration and teamwork. I’m someone who thrives in environments where I can work with others, share ideas, and tackle challenges together. At SMU, the learning experience is designed around this collaborative spirit. The emphasis on group projects, interactive discussions, and peer learning ensures that you’re constantly engaging with others, learning to navigate different perspectives, and building valuable interpersonal skills.
This approach not only prepares you for the professional world, where teamwork is essential but also enriches the university experience by creating a supportive and dynamic community. At SMU, you’re not just studying in isolation; you’re part of a vibrant network of students who are all learning and growing together. That’s the kind of environment I wanted—a place where education is about more than just acing exams, but about developing as a person, building connections, and gaining practical experience.
Please share about any community service projects/trips that you have taken part in in SMU, and why those are meaningful to you.
I participated in SMU Red-Cross’s Project DC, where we teach first-aid skills to children from less privileged backgrounds. It taught me the importance of empowering others with life-saving knowledge, and it was incredibly meaningful to see how these skills could make a real difference in their lives. The experience also deepened my understanding of empathy, responsibility, and the impact that small actions can have on a community.
What is your favourite spot on campus?
LKS library level 5 where there’s honeycomb tables inside as I can sometimes talk to my friends without worrying that I will disturb other people in the library.
