Why did you choose to come to SMU?
I chose to come to SMU primarily for the courses they offered – Computing & Law seemed like a unique combination with strong implications on this “new” world that we are entering into, where technology seems so pervasive and unmitigated. I wanted a degree that would encourage me to take a more multidisciplinary approach to modern problems.
Please share with us your most recent or your favourite global experience.
Over the summer after Year 2, I joined the Exeter College Summer Programme (Oxford University). I chose to embark on this particular global experience due to the esteemed faculty and the unique types of courses offered. Although the courses were not directly related to my field of study, it truly broadened my perspective of the world and my approach to multidisciplinary learning. I enjoyed being able to live on campus and getting to explore the UK, but my highlight would be the interactions with my peers and professors. It was a unique opportunity to be able to bring in my interests and talk candidly with others from different backgrounds and be able to learn from them. The professors also encouraged our interests and found ways to integrate that into our research for the coursework.
Name your favourite class/mod at SMU so far, and why:
I really enjoyed taking French, it was nice being able to learn another language and being exposed to another culture. I especially enjoyed the class participation component that had us do different tasks to learn more about French culture, such as trying French food, making a playlist of French music and attending events organised by SMU Francophiles.
A fun fact about SMU:
You can walk to every school, so no waiting for shuttle buses or getting wet if it rains.
