Mr Nicholas Soh Zhan Yi, a Year 2 student from Lee Kong Chian School of Business, has done SMU proud by winning the Youth Prize in an international essay competition administered by The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences’ MathEd Forum in partnership with Vretta, a Toronto-based educational media studio. The cash prize of CAD1500 was sponsored by The American Statistical Association.

Four undergraduates in Team Cognitare took third place at the 2016 Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition (CIBCC) held in Krabi, Thailand, last week. Second-year undergraduate Josephine Soh also stood out with her superb presentation and was named the competition’s Best Speaker.

The Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) and School of Accountancy (SOA) have achieved another milestone – both schools have earned re-accreditation from AACSB International (AACSB), the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

Two SMU teams have done the University and the country proud by bringing home the first runner-up prizes in two moot competitions - the Willem C. Vis (East) and Willem C. Vis moot competitions held in Hong Kong and Vienna this month. No other law school in the world has ever reached the finals of both Vis moots in two consecutive years.

In March 2016, Deloitte organised the inter-university Risk Intelligence Challenge for the fourth year running. Taking a fresh direction, the 2016 competition focused on business expansion, innovation (start-ups) and strategic risk management. The aim was to nurture entrepreneurial efforts in combination with risk intelligence, and to encourage students to deliver new insights on risk management.

A team of four second-year finance students - Toh Yi An, Ian Chua, Ernest Ong and Darren Cheng - have done SMU proud by winning a national stock-pitching competition, beating 80 other teams from tertiary institutions such as NUS, NTU and Temasek Polytechnic on their way to becoming champions. Another SMU team clinched the runner-up position. Their feat was featured in The Business Times on 28 March 2016.

Four third-year students - Tay Qi Hang and Olivia Ou Yu Xin from the School of Economics, as well as Jemie Then Lu Yi and Amelia Quek Pei Yu from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business – have done SMU proud by emerging as global champions at the recently-concluded KPMG Business Administration Paper 2015 in Hong Kong.
